Most price guides quote a range somebody made up. These are the rates cleaners currently advertise on Match Maid: $24 to $60 an hour for a regular clean, with most between $35 and $50 and the middle of the market at about $42 an hour. Nobody is bidding, and nothing is hidden until you make contact.

What cleaners are actually charging.

What moves the price
Five things, in the order they matter
1. How often you book
This is the big one. A fortnightly cleaner maintains a home; a one-off resets it. The same house takes noticeably fewer hours on a regular slot, so the per-visit cost drops even though the hourly rate has not.
2. Regular or deep
A deep clean adds the oven, the inside of the fridge, interior windows, inside cupboards and a wall wash. It is priced higher per hour and takes two to three times as long.
3. Whether products are supplied
A cleaner who brings their own products, vacuum and mop is carrying a real cost, and it shows in the rate. If you would rather they used yours, say so before you book - some cleaners price it differently.
4. Verification and insurance
ID-verified, criminal-checked and insured cleaners generally charge more than someone starting out. That gap is the whole point: you can see who has been checked before you let anyone into your home.
5. How far they travel
Cleaners set a travel radius, and one who already works your street has no dead time to price in. It is why a local cleaner is usually the cheaper one, and why our search only shows people who cover your suburb.

Is it cheaper to book a regular cleaner than a one-off?
Per visit, yes. One-off and first cleans usually take longer and are often quoted as a deep clean. If you are weighing a one-off against a fortnightly slot, compare what the visit costs, not what the hour costs.
Should I pay hourly or a flat rate?
Hourly is the norm here, and the fairer of the two for a home nobody has seen yet. A flat price suits a job with a fixed scope, like an end-of-tenancy clean. Cleaners on Match Maid advertise hourly rates and agree anything fixed with you directly.
Do I tip a house cleaner in New Zealand?
No - tipping is not expected here. If you want to recognise good work, the things that actually help an independent cleaner are a review on their profile and a standing fortnightly slot.
What does Match Maid charge households?

Why is there a minimum rate?
Cleaners cannot advertise below $20 an hour on Match Maid. A race to the bottom is bad for the person doing the work and, in the end, for the person paying for it - so the floor exists on purpose.
